Good news, gamers! It looks like the PlayStation 5 shortage is finally over. According to Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan, the PS5 has now surpassed 30 million units sold, an increase of five million from the 25 million figure revealed just two months ago.
This is especially exciting considering that December 2022
was the biggest month for PS5 sales so far. Ryan stated that "everyone who
wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally,
starting from this point forward." It's clear that the demand for the
popular console is still going strong, and it's great to see that Sony has been
able to ramp up production to meet that demand.
But it hasn't always been smooth sailing for the PS5. A
crippling semiconductor chip shortage seriously restricted the creation of new
consoles, leading to shortages and high demand. However, even with these
challenges, the PS5 was still able to surpass 20 million units sold by June
2021. Sony executive Veronica Rogers announced at the time that the company was
"planning on a significant ramp-up in PS5 production."
It looks like those plans have paid off, and we couldn't be
happier for all the gamers out there who have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity
to get their hands on a PS5. So if you've been holding out for the perfect time
to buy, it looks like that time has finally arrived. Happy gaming!
