If you're a fan of Left 4 Dead, then you'll definitely want to check out the latest leak from the modding community GameBanana. A prototype of the game, called Terror-Strike, has surfaced online and it's an absolute treat for fans of the zombie shooter.
Terror-Strike was created by Turtle Rock Studios as a mod for Counter-Strike. According to the studio's founder, Michael Booth, the team was developing bots for Counter-Strike: Source and they discovered that a small group of players armed with automatic weapons against 30 enemy bots armed with only knives was a lot of fun. This kernel of an idea eventually became the foundation for Left 4 Dead.
The Terror-Strike prototype features the basic concept of Left 4 Dead, with a small team fighting against hordes of enemies. The prototype is called "Zombie_City" and it's available to download from GameBanana. Modder Wolfcl0ck even made a few tweaks to make it fully playable.
While the Special Infected and personable survivors with their cheery banter came later in the development of Left 4 Dead, the Terror-Strike prototype shows the basic idea's feasibility. Shooting hordes of enemies who don't shoot back is a lot of fun, and the prototype provides a glimpse into the early days of Left 4 Dead's development.
If you're a fan of the game, or just want to see where it
all began, be sure to check out the Terror-Strike prototype on GameBanana. It's
a neat look back at the time Turtle Rock created something that impressed Valve
so much that the studio was acquired by the company. Who knows what other gems
from the past will be uncovered in the modding community?
